Anonymous Seagull Claims Eastbourne Chip Theft Is Controlled By Just Three Powerful Families
Whistleblower alleges generations of Eastbourne’s most powerful gulls have secretly divided the seafront between them.
By Anonymous Seagull
EASTBOURNE — Eastbourne’s seemingly random chip thefts are allegedly controlled by just three powerful seagull families who have divided the town’s seafront into highly profitable territories.
That is the extraordinary claim made by The Seagull Times’ confidential correspondent, Anonymous Seagull, who says the birds residents see stealing food are merely the lowest level of a much larger organisation.
"You think some gull just happens to steal your chips?"
Our source laughed.
"Nothing happens by accident down here."
According to the whistleblower, three families have controlled Eastbourne's illicit chip economy for generations.
They would identify them only as:
The Beaks.
The Wings.
And The McFlurrys.
We asked about the final name.
"It's complicated."
Seafront Allegedly Divided
According to Anonymous Seagull, each family controls a different section of the seafront.
Crossing into another family's territory without permission is considered a serious offence.
"You might see two gulls fighting and think they're arguing over bread."
"They're not."
"That's territory."
Our correspondent claims some of the most valuable areas are locations where tourists frequently eat outdoors.
These are known within the organisation as Golden Crumb Zones.
Control of just one successful bench can allegedly produce dozens of chips per day.
On sunny weekends, that figure can triple.
The Beaks
The Beak family is allegedly the oldest of the three organisations.
Anonymous Seagull claims they specialise in traditional food theft.
Chips.
Sandwiches.
Sausage rolls.
Nothing complicated.
"They're old school."
"A Beak doesn't mess around."
According to legend, the family's founder stole an entire portion of chips from a tourist sometime during the 1980s without landing.
The story has never been independently verified.
Among gulls, it is apparently treated with enormous respect.
The Wings
The Wings allegedly control more sophisticated operations.
Rather than directly stealing food, they specialise in distraction.
One gull approaches from the front.
The human watches it.
A second bird attacks from behind.
"It's classic Wings."
Anonymous Seagull claims some operatives train for months before being trusted with a full sandwich interception.
Their success rate is reportedly exceptional.
"They understand humans."
"Humans always watch the loud gull."
We asked what we should be watching instead.
Our source stared behind us.
We turned around.
Our lunch disappeared.
The McFlurrys
Very little is known about the third family.
Anonymous Seagull became noticeably uncomfortable when asked about them.
"They don't do chips."
What do they do?
"Ice cream."
The interview went silent.
Apparently, stealing ice cream is considered specialist work requiring exceptional timing and almost complete disregard for human dignity.
Young gulls are reportedly warned never to interfere with McFlurry operations.
"They're completely unhinged."
Uneasy Peace Maintained
Despite generations of rivalry, the three families allegedly maintain an agreement known as The Promenade Accord.
Under its terms, each organisation respects the others' territory.
Major events are divided separately.
Airbourne is reportedly considered neutral territory due to the sheer quantity of available food.
"There's enough for everybody."
"Airbourne is beautiful."
The whistleblower briefly appeared emotional.
Big Beak Connection Denied
The allegations inevitably raise questions about the mysterious figure known as Big Beak, previously named by Anonymous Seagull as a possible senior figure within Eastbourne's sausage roll network.
When asked whether Big Beak belongs to one of the three families, our source immediately refused to answer.
"I've already said too much about him."
We asked again.
Anonymous Seagull looked towards a nearby rooftop.
"No."
Was that no to the question?
"No more questions."
We moved on.
Locals Completely Unaware
Eastbourne residents approached by The Seagull Times had no idea the alleged network existed.
"I thought they were just seagulls," said local resident Graham Collins.
Anonymous Seagull later described this response as:
"Exactly what we want."
Another resident claimed she had never experienced chip theft.
Our correspondent asked for her name.
We declined to provide it.
Whistleblower Issues Warning
Before leaving, Anonymous Seagull offered one piece of advice to anyone eating along Eastbourne seafront.
"If a gull is staring at your chips, don't worry about that gull."
"Why?"
"Because that's the one you're supposed to see."
They then flew away.
Several seconds later, another gull landed beside us.
It didn't attempt to steal anything.
Instead, it dropped a single chip onto the table.
Scratched into the chip were three letters:
MCF
We have temporarily suspended our investigation into the McFlurry family.
For legal reasons.
And because we're frightened.
