Eastbourne Residents Stunned After Train Actually Arrives At Station
Passengers describe unprecedented scenes as service appears on departure board and then physically turns up.

EASTBOURNE — Commuters at Eastbourne railway station have described scenes of disbelief after a train advertised on the departure board reportedly arrived at the station and allowed passengers to board it.
The extraordinary incident occurred on Tuesday morning when passengers waiting for a service noticed something unusual approaching along the tracks.
Initial reports suggested it might be an empty train.
Others believed it was possibly being moved to a depot.
However, witnesses quickly realised the vehicle contained seats, passengers and, remarkably, a driver apparently intending to take it somewhere.
"I didn't know what to do," said commuter Graham Morris.
"I've become so accustomed to looking at departure boards that I'd forgotten there was supposed to be another stage."
Departure Board Proves Accurate
Perhaps most remarkably, the train was reportedly displaying the same destination as the departure board.
Several passengers photographed both as evidence.
One woman immediately called her husband.
"I told him there was a train here."
"He didn't believe me."
"So I video-called him."
Her husband reportedly asked her to turn the camera around twice.
Rail enthusiasts have described the event as "extremely promising."
Passengers Initially Refuse To Board
Confusion increased when the train doors opened.
Nobody moved.
Approximately 40 passengers simply stared at it.
"We assumed there'd be an announcement saying it was cancelled," explained one commuter.
"So everyone waited."
After approximately thirty seconds, one particularly courageous passenger stepped aboard.
Nothing happened.
Another followed.
Within minutes, dozens of people had successfully entered the train.
Witnesses applauded.
Driver Announces Intention To Leave
Shortly afterwards, passengers received another shock.
The driver announced that the service was preparing to depart.
"That's when I knew something unusual was happening," said Graham.
"I'd prepared myself emotionally for a replacement bus."
Some passengers had already made alternative arrangements.
One had downloaded three podcasts.
Another had brought sandwiches.
A commuter travelling towards London had informed his employer that he expected to arrive "at some point this week."
He was suddenly faced with the possibility of reaching work before lunch.
"It's completely ruined my morning," he said.
Eastbourne Struggles With New Reality
News of the functioning railway quickly spread across town.
Residents reportedly began travelling to the station simply to witness it.
One father brought his children.
"I wanted them to see what trains used to do," he explained.
"They've seen pictures, obviously."
"But seeing one actually leave a station is different."
Local historians were also contacted to verify whether regular train services had previously existed between Eastbourne and other settlements.
Records suggest they had.
Replacement Bus Drivers Given Morning Off
The sudden appearance of a functioning train caused particular confusion among replacement bus drivers.
Several were reportedly seen standing around with nothing to replace.
One driver described the situation as "unnatural."
"I normally get told there's a problem somewhere and suddenly I've got 70 people asking whether I'm going to Lewes."
"Today, nothing."
He intends to remain nearby in case normality returns.
Journey Continues
Passengers aboard the service remained cautious as it left Eastbourne.
Nobody wanted to become overconfident.
"We've departed," said one passenger approximately five minutes into the journey.
"That doesn't necessarily mean we're getting there."
Several continued checking their phones for updates despite physically sitting on the train.
One passenger refused to remove his coat.
"I don't want to tempt fate."
Officials Urge Calm
Transport officials have reassured residents that trains arriving at stations is a recognised feature of railway operations.
They have asked passengers not to become alarmed if they witness similar incidents in future.
Experts say trains may also occasionally depart on time.
There is currently insufficient evidence to confirm this.
At the time of publication, the Eastbourne service was still moving.
Passengers were reportedly in good spirits.
However, nobody had cancelled the number of the local taxi company just yet.
